Labor Day Weekend Means Increased Traffic Activity; Vehicle Accidents Likely

September 1 is Labor Day. Since it falls on a Monday, it is expected that a lot of Americans would be taking advantage of the extended vacation over the weekend. Also, the federal holiday is the unofficial end to the summer season, ushering the advent of fall and welcoming students back to school. Given the circumstances, people all over the nation are likely to spend the short holiday weekend to organize last-minute summer trips or parties at either bars or at the comfort of their own neighborhood. That would only mean one thing: motor vehicles are expected to fill up major thoroughfares over the weekend.

Unlike the upcoming Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and the Christmas seasons, traveling within Labor Day weekend tends to be less costly, thus the anticipated influx of vehicles on highways throughout those three days. In fact, according to the projections of the Automobile Club of Southern California, more Southern California residents will be hitting the roads this weekend than any other Labor Day weekend since six years ago, at nearly 4 million travelers all over the state, with 3.19 million of them expected to drive their vehicles.

One main concern about all this, though, is the fact that vehicle accidents increase during this time of the year. Based on the National Safety Council (NSC) statistics, traffic fatalities from 2006 to 2011 ranged from more than 300 to less than 500.

Among the culprits are the intoxicated drivers. Basically a lot of people are expected to have drinks at house parties or at bars over the weekend as a last hurrah for this year’s summer season. Some of them, however, would be driving themselves back home drunk; putting themselves in danger of getting caught by law enforcement or getting injured or killed, likewise putting other motorists’ lives at risk.

This is why the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and all the other traffic and law enforcement agencies in every state in the U.S. are anticipating the influx of vehicles this upcoming long weekend to control the situation of the streets. First order of business is, of course, to track down drivers under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, expert attorneys such as a car accident attorney in Los Angeles, as well as other road safety advocates, remind every single individual planning to do the following:

  • Avoid any distractions such as the use of cellphones and other devices;
  • Buckle up using the seat belt;
  • Buckle children up at the back seat of the vehicle using car safety seats;
  • Exercise caution by driving defensively, especially when amidst inclement weather or any tough traffic situation; and
  • Designate a non-drinking driver when going out to drink alcohol.

More than a week after Honey Boo Boo’s family car wreck emerged, authorities have finally determined who’s at fault in the incident.

According to Milledgeville Police Department, the January 6 truck accident was Sugar Bear’s fault.

Police reportedly told media sources that Sugar Bear made an unsafe left turn in front of a truck when the two vehicles collided.

Media sources were further told that Honey Boo Boo’s family members also admitted that they saw lights on the other vehicle when the incident occurred, contrary to the initial report claiming that the truck was running with its light off.

The ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ stars, were involved in a horrible vehicle accident, which injured everyone in Thompson’s family except Jessica, a couple of weeks ago. In fact, recent reports that surfaced last week have it that Pumpkin was still at the hospital while the rest of the family who were discharged from the hospital earlier, including Honey Boo Boo, remained by her side all along.

Fortunately for Sugar Bear, although the investigations revealed that he is at fault in the incident, he would not be charged with a crime. The incident is now a civil case. Thus, the insurance companies will be the one to take care of everything.

As for the family’s vehicle, it is not yet clear whether the SUV will ever run again.

George Michael Airlifted to Hospital after Motorway Crash

This is a guest post from Ben Magee of Hugh James Solicitors.

M1 MotorwayThe British singer George Michael sustained ‘superficial cuts’ after falling out of his vehicle on the M1 motorway in Hertfordshire, England.

After the incident, in which the former Wham star was found covered in blood on the busy road at rush hour, it was initially unclear what exactly happened. Fortunately, there were no other vehicles involved or passengers hurt in the said vehicle accident. However, details began to pour claiming that the singer fell from the passenger seat of his Range Rover as he tried to close its door.

The British pop star, whose real name is Georgios Panayiotou, was travelling with friends, when fell onto the tarmac at a speed of around 70mph, hurting his head and ripping his clothing. Hertfordshire Police had to close the carriageway of the road while dealing with the ‘fallout.’ The singer was then airlifted to a hospital where he is still receiving treatment.

Katherine Fox, 23, was the first driver to reach the singer on the road and reversed her own vehicle against the rush hour traffic to allow him to make his way to the shoulder of the road. She later told the media sources that he was “lucky” to still be alive.

Two other people were in the Range Rover at the time, including the driver, but no arrests have been made. Afterwards, a spokesman for the star, who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide since performing Wham in the 1980s, said “George is being treated for superficial cuts and bruises but is fine.”

After hitting his head, the British pop star would definitely be very grateful that he only suffered minor injuries to what is one of the most vulnerable parts of the body, the head. Meanwhile, George’s driver would also be thankful that the damage wasn’t as a result of his error – meaning he can’t be pursued for brain injury compensation by head and brain injury lawyers.

The New York Jets coach luckily survived a multiple-car accident unscathed more than a week ago according to recent news reports.

Reports specified that Jets’ coach, Rex Ryan, was left uninjured following a three-car collision in eastern Pennsylvania.

According to authorities, the football coach was driving a Ford Mustang last night of January 14 when he crashed into a car which subsequently hit into a third vehicle. Allegedly, a witness claimed that Ryan ran through the red light before hitting the first car.

Fortunately, no one was injured from the incident.

So far, the Bethlehem Police Department is still waiting for further witnesses to step forward and testify to complete the initial investigation.

Meanwhile, according to Jets’ spokesperson, Ryan did not receive any citations following the incident aside from a warning.

In the past few months, Ryan has taken the center stage after being retained by the team’s owner, Woody Johnson, despite missing in action for two straight season. Also, his controversial tattoo on his right arm portraying his wife wearing Mark Sanchez’s number 6 jersey has also dropped his name into headlines.

Apparently, aside from his personal issues, no other legal embattlements were associated with Ryan. Fortunately for him, he was not cited for any traffic violation. Nevertheless, it is probably too early to end up in conclusion while the investigation is currently ongoing.

As it is, traffic law violators often cause vehicle accidents. In such events, the driver at fault may be charged with civil lawsuits and other related charges which will cause him or her to provide compensations to the victims, if there is any, noted by a personal injury lawyer in Los Angeles.

Tom Cruise Allegedly Involved in High-speed Car Chase while in New York with Suri

On Wednesday, Tom Cruise was reportedly involved in a high-speed car chase in New York while spending quality time with his daughter Suri after the latter got involved in a minor car crash with her mother last Monday night.

According to reports, the actor and his 6-year-old daughter, Suri, engaged in a high-speed car chase at the west side of Manhattan when they were chased by some paparazzi. Allegedly, Tom Cruise’s driver had to break speed limits and beat through red lights while the actor’s black Chevy Suburban was pursued by photographers in cars, motorcycles, and even bicycles.

The alleged high-speed chase began as Cruise and Suri left the Greenwich Hotel in Tribeca, New York and ended at the heliport where a chopper is waiting to lift them to New Jersey.

However, in a statement released by Cruise’s spokesperson Amanda Lundberg, she denied that there was any car chase incident that occurred from the hotel to the helipad. Lundberg claimed that there was no such incident that occurred. In fact, police even testified that they had received no complaints of any near accident on Wednesday.

Cruise arrived in New York on Tuesday to see his daughter Suri after the latter and her mom, Katie Holmes, got involved in a Monday evening minor car crash. Also, last Friday, Suri and Katie had a minor vehicle accident with paparazzi as they were heading home from a toy store.

At present, prosecutors in Los Angeles are considering testing the state’s comparatively new anti-paparazzi law in prosecuting photographers who chase several celebrities within the state, according to a personal injury lawyer in Los Angeles.

U.S. Commerce Secretary John Bryson under Investigation for 2 Consecutive Road Mishaps

The U.S. Commerce Secretary is currently under investigation for the two hit-and-run accidents that occurred near his California home last weekend.

According to a statement released by the Commerce Department spokesperson, Jennifer Friedman, the investigation regarding the incidents is ongoing.

According to the Southern California police, Bryson was found unconscious behind the wheel of his Lexus car on Saturday after crashing into one car twice and then crashing again into another.

The Commerce Department office said that the secretary had suffered a seizure during the accident. He was accordingly driving his own car on his personal time with no security escorts at the time of the vehicle accidents.

Nevertheless, Bryson still remains to be cooperative with the investigation and in fact, he voluntarily took a breathalyzer test after the crash, and took an immediate medical leave of absence so that he can focus all his attention on resolving the traffic incidents as well as his health issues. So far, alcohol and drug is not a factor to the incidents according to police. Bryson also underwent a blood test but the result is not yet available.

Since October 2011, Bryson has served President Barack Obama as secretary of Commerce. He is also an energy expert and seasoned businessman. On Saturday, at about 5:05 in the evening, Bryson reportedly rear-ended a Buick in San Gabriel and then hit the car again upon leaving the scene. Five minutes later after the first crash, Bryson again hit another car, a Honda Accord in Rosemead, California.

Bryson was treated at the accident scene and was later transported to the hospital. Passengers on the second car did not sustain major injuries and declined medical aid. However, two people from the first car accident were treated by paramedics after complaining of pain.

At present, the Los Angeles police have formally cited Bryson in the traffic incidents. However, the local district’ attorney’s office will decide whether criminal charges will be filed against Bryson.

A causative factor of personal injury, automobile accidents occur due to negligence of both or one of the involved parties. Sometimes, unexpected event also occurs and collisions occur for no obvious reason like Brysons’ case wherein he apparently suffered from seizure during the accident, according to a Los Angeles automobile accident attorney. Most automobile accidents can be avoided if only proper precautionary measures are observed carefully.

Court Sets Hearing for Amanda Bynes’ Minor Vehicle Accident

One of today’s most troubled Hollywood stars, Amanda Bynes, recently received a hearing date related to her drunk driving which resulted into a minor vehicle accident last April.

Reports said that Bynes was set to appear before a Beverly Hills court on June 6.

However, although there was a hearing date scheduled, the District Attorney’s office spokesperson said that the actress has not been officially charged; but, in the near future or definitely after the scheduled hearing, Bynes could possibly be charged.

It can be recalled that last April 6, Bynes was arrested for drunk driving after she tried to pass a Los Angeles Sherriff’s car at an intersection in Santa Monica. That night seemed so unfortunate for Bynes, since as she tried to swerve on the Sheriff’s car, her car struck the right rear panel of the officer’s car and caused minor paint damage.

According to the apprehending officers who arrested Bynes, the actress looked so troubled and impaired that night. Bynes was released the next morning after her father paid her $5,000 bail at the West Hollywood Sheriff Station.

Several weeks after Bynes’ DUI arrest, the actress was again involved in a minor fender bender in May near an intersection in California. However, the actress was not given any citation since the authorities found a reasonable cause to believe Bynes when she said that she wasn’t aware that she had swiped a car.

Apparently, luck seems to be quiet elusive with Bynes these past few months. Obviously, she needs a very good Los Angeles accident attorney to defend her in her subsequent vehicle accidents.

9–vehicle Collision in Monterey Killed 3

multiple car accidentThree people were killed in a vehicle accident involving nine cars last February 22 in Monterey County, California.

According to initial investigations, a suspected drunken driver who was trying to reach for her cell phone caused the 9-vehicle collision.

The three fatalities were identified as Maria Ochoa, 35, from Pleasanton, Rafael Zambrano Llamas, 37, Graciela Hernandez Llamas, 39. The victims were riding in one of the nine cars involved at the accident. The fourth occupant, who was taken to the hospital due to serious injuries sustained, remained unidentified.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Zoltan Treiner said that the victims came from a funeral in King City and were heading home when the tragic accident occurred.
The said multiple car crash happened just north of the Jolod Road exit of Highway 101 in King City at around the 8:45 in the evening. A Ford Explorer driven by Vivian Ramirez, 42, from Gonzales, crossed at the center divider and crashed against the Volkswagen driven by Llamas, who was on the opposite lane. Treiner said that the suspected drunken driver was reaching for her cell phone, and then  lost control of her car and crashed straight on to the other motorists. As a result of her negligence, she created a multiple vehicle mishap and left several injured people.

Ramirez also sustained serious injuries, but it doesn’t make her excused from all her liabilities resulting from the collision. She was arrested for driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, according to the CHP.

On January 1, 2009, a Wireless Communication Device Law has been implemented in California. The law prohibits California motorists from using or handling mobile phones while driving. Nevertheless, motorists still keep on disobeying the traffic rules and regulations. Therefore, such fatal vehicle accidents due to other people’s negligence often happen.

Victims from such accidents may file for a claim for the injuries and damages they sustained. The victims may seek help from an experienced Los Angeles personal injury attorney to guide them through the claim process and to make sure that they would get what they deserve for their compensation.

Panorama City Vehicle Collision causes Oil Spill

truck accidentA truck-bus accident in Panorama City, Los Angeles on Wednesday has caused commotion when the FedEx delivery truck spilled fuel on the road.

According to Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the initial report was that a vehicle happened to hit a pedestrian. However, succeeding reports confirmed that it was indeed a two-vehicle accident between a bus and a FedEx delivery truck.

LAFD spokesperson, Brian Humphrey said that four ambulances were dispatched to the accident scene, but reports said that only two injured people  were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Firefighters said that it took 20 pounds of sand to cover up the fuel that leaked from the truck to avoid the risk of catching fire. The clearing operation lasted until late morning.

The cause of the accident was not yet determined and the investigation is still in progress.

Recent news report said that the day before the accident happened, a delivery truck of FedEx also got involved in an accident in Central Miami. The truck driver ran on red light causing it to hit a bus.

Nowadays, truck accidents are considered as common occurrences on the road.  According to statistics, in every 16 minutes, one person gets either injured or killed in a truck accident.

Most victims of truck accidents are often left suffering.  Therefore, those victims from the said accident should get the service of a Los Angeles lawyer specializing in truck accident cases and other related matters to help them formulate effective strategies for obtaining claims.
