$300 for a 911 Call??

For a change I won’t be posting about an accident but something that may potentially affect the response time of police and firefighters.

According to a report in CBS13.com, Tracy residents will now have to pay every time they call 911 for emergency.

Residents have the option to pay $48 for the whole year and call 911 all they want (or just whenever necessary) or pay $300 every time they call 911.

$300!!! Are you kidding me??

What if a Tracy resident sees a car accident??

Now he is torn between calling 911 to save the victim’s life or not call 911 and save $300.

We all know that life is more important than money, but that $300 can also go a long way in feeding a family.

Besides doesn’t our tax money already pay for their salaries, should we really pay more?

And isn’t this like the government is charging us for saving a person’s life?? Aren’t we supposed to reward heroism?

This is just weird news to me.

What do you think?

  1. This news is just plain sad and disturbing. The local government authorities should not impost fees on calls to 911. Say, you happen to be right there when the emergency happened. Instead of immediately calling for help, any normal person will think twice about calling 911 because $300 is just too much for one phone call.
