Elderly Pedestrian Dies when Hit by Car while Jaywalking

Crosswalks are created or designated so that pedestrians can safely cross the street without the fear of being hit by vehicles. If an accident happens because they are not using the crosswalk, the driver may not be held liable for it.

A 54-year-old woman reportedly died after being struck by a Honda Accord while jaywalking in Fresno.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the woman as Donna Patterson, from Fresno. Reports said the accident occurred near Saginaw Way, along Blackstone Avenue at around 11:10 a.m.

According to reports, the woman was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities issued no citations to the driver.

In this case, the driver may escape from any liability because the pedestrian failed to comply with traffic rules.
