Drunk Driver in Fatal Crash Charged with Felony DUI

The 20-year-old suspected drunk driver who has recently killed three of his passengers in a collision near Easton has been arrested and is said to be facing felony DUI charge.

The California Highway Patrol said that Orlando Gomez Benitez was arrested after the crash as he reportedly drove his Pontiac Sunfire past a stop sign at the intersection of Fig and American Avenues when a Honda Accord hit it.

The collision has killed Benitez’ three passengers aged 18-20 while two of Accord’s occupants sustained minor to moderate injuries and were taken to a hospital.

This fatal accident that has taken three young lives could have been prevented if only Benitez was responsible enough not to drink and drive. It was not immediately reported whether the passengers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash but the seriousness of their injuries probably be caused by their lack of restraints if they weren’t wearing seatbelts.
