Drunken, Speeding Marine Causes Fatal Crash
A 22-year-old Marine who appeared to be drunk and speeding in Reseda was arrested after a fatal vehicular accident involving a woman and her 5-year-old grandson early Sunday morning.

Reports show that the woman, Chandrika DeSilva, with her husband and grandson was just arriving from dinner when the accident occurred at about 2am.
Richard Buitron was said to be speeding along Strathern Street while driving his eastbound Jeep Cherokee while drunk when he rear-ended the vehicle containing the victims. DeSilva’s husband was opening the gate to the driveway when the accident occurred.
DeSilva was said to be getting his grandson from the backseat when their vehicle was hit by Buitron’s vehicle. DeSilva was pinned in the crash and died at the scene while his grandson, who was strapped in his car seat, sustained a concussion and was airlifted to Childrens Hospital.
Buitron was questioned by authorities before he was booked at Van Nuys jail.
